Program History

The victim assitance program was established in October 2000.  The program was developed to address the needs and rights of innocent victims of crime and thier families.

The demand for victim services provided by the McCracken County Attorney's Office of Victim Assistance is increasing rapidly.  By the end of 2001 over 1200 victims had been served.  All of the services are provided by the program director and the victim advocate and with the help of volunteers.

Volunteer Opportunities

The leadership of key volunteers is essentially needed in all areas of Victim Assistance.  Volunteers provide the needed help to carry out mny functions that the justice systems rewquires of our office and the Victim Assistance Program.

Volunteers may be assigned general office duties or provide direct services to crime victims, depending on their age, experience and career pursuits.  Volunteers are recruited from the community, through local colleges and high schools.  Training for volunteers is provided by the Victim Assistance Office.
